John Maguire, assistant vice president for University Relations at Western Illinois University, is among eight higher education professionals nationally to be awarded a CASE 2003 Research Writing Award.

His dissertation, entitled, Public Institutions in Higher Education Policies on the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 and the Buckley Amendment, will be recognized at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) International Assembly Monday, July 7 in Washington, D.C. Each award winner receives a cash honorarium and an expense-paid trip to the CASE Assembly.

“My co-chairs, Dr. Phyllis McCluskey-Titus and Dr. Paul Baker, guided me through the development of my interest in campus crime into a case study that put marketing, sociology, crime and higher education administration in perspective for universities,” Maguire said. “My dissertation culminated my experience in the Educational Administration and Foundations (EAF) program at Illinois State University. The selection of my dissertation for a national award has brought attention to the topic of campus crime, the quality of the EAF program, and my work in public affairs at Western Illinois University. Earning the PhD from ISU has been worth the time and effort.”
