Registrar Jonathan Rosenthal

The University Registrar’s Office, including the Student Service and Referral Center, Evaluation Services, Academic Records, Transcripts and Verification, and Veteran Services areas, has updated their Web site to include a section specifically for Illinois State University alumni.

The alumni site includes a guide for requesting official transcripts by fax, mail or in person; a guide for requesting replacement diplomas; a list of frequently asked questions and answers to those questions; and a section on PIN numbers and privacy information.  To access the site, click on Registrar.

Jonathan Rosenthal became the University Registrar on July 1 after serving as associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State University.  He replaced Larry Quane, who was Interim Registrar from the time Carolyn Bartlett retired in December of 2003 after 11 years of service as Registrar and 35 years at Illinois State University.

“As associate dean, I worked a lot on advisement, course scheduling and curricular issues,” said Rosenthal. “That experience helped make my transition to the Registrar’sOffice a fairly smooth one. Technology is more and more an integral part of how we do business, and the Registrar’s Office is leading the way for the campus in electronic document imaging. Alumni interact with the Registrar’s Office mostly in requesting transcripts and enrollment verification information. We are always looking for ways of improving our service and are currently working on some new options that will be even more convenient, but that will also preserve necessary confidentiality and security of student records.”

Rosenthal received a master’s degree and doctoral degree from Princeton University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.  He came to Illinois State in 1991 as a faculty member in Foreign Languages and has served in various University administrative positions since 1994.  Rosenthal received a Fulbright Fellowship to France and was a Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellow. He received many University awards including a Distinguished Teaching Award, the Herb Sanders Award for Academic Advisement and the University Distinguished Service Award.

The University Registrar is part of Enrollment Management and Academic Services, serving as custodian of all student information systems data.  The Registrar also has responsibility for degree audit and curriculum review as well as certification for teacher education and intercollegiate athletics eligibility, oversight of the class registration directory, revision of the undergraduate catalog and administration of the statewide Illinois Articulation Initiative.
