(December 12, 2006) Kyle Sayers, a senior in the College of Education, is completing the semester as a second-grade student teacher at Prairie Grove Elementary School. Not only is she teaching elementary students in northern Illinois, but she is helping to make a difference in the lives of children in Uganda. She, and fellow student teacher Laura Reiman, have spearheaded a project through Books of Hope, a program in which students of all levels create books to send to children living in very difficult situations abroad. Kindergarten through eighth grade students and teachers at Prairie Grove have created 90 books that will be sent to Northern Uganda to provide education and a sense of peace for children living in the civil war-ravaged country.

The Northwest Herald published a news story on December 5, 2006 about the school’s project. Read “With Hope of Helping.”
