150th Commemorative Ornament

In honor of the University’s sesquicentennial celebration, the Illinois State University Alumni Association commissioned Fred Mills, former chair and faculty member in the School of Art, to design a keepsake ornament.  Mills’ design features trees to honor the deep roots of Jesse Fell’s legacy and the more than 13,000 trees that were planted on the prairie site that would become Illinois’ first public university.

To showcase the transition of Illinois State Normal University to Illinois State University, as well as the excellence of academic programs, faculty and facilities over time, Mills selected the first permanent classroom building, Old Main, and the newest, the College of Business building, to be featured on the ornament. The piece is framed by the sidewalk of the University’s Quad and also features the 150th celebration logo.

The ornaments will be available for a limited time through the campus bookstores.  For additional information, visit Alumni Merchandise.
