For 15 years, Sisters & Friends has presented a myriad of artists from across the country and around the world through “The Academy of Art,” a two-day fine-art event at the Illinois State University Alumni Center at 1101 N. Main St. in Normal. The academy, which is free and open to the public, celebrates the spirit of African and African-American culture.

Nationally renowned artists scheduled to appear in this year’s academy on Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 23, from noon to 5 p.m., include Charles Bibbs, Danny Broadway, Stacey Brown, Ted Ellis and Andre Guichard, along with many other prominent artists.

Sisters & Friends, a group of professional black women who appreciate the eloquence and power of outstanding fine art, have increased the exposure of art and artists from the African Diaspora to the community, collaborating with schools and establishing higher education scholarships for college and university art students.
