Initiated during Illinois State’s sesquicentennial year, the University Speakers Series will continue during the upcoming fall semester. Several guests are scheduled for a campus visit, including History Professor Emeritus Mark Wyman. He will speak at 7 p.m. on August 31 at Milner Library. His topic will “Hoboes and the American West.”

Carlos Eire will speak at 7 p.m. on September 30 in Braden Auditorium. Eire is the Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies in Yale’s History Department. He will speak on his book, Waiting for Snow in Havana, which is his story of coming out of Cuba in the early 1960s.

Jeannette Walls comes to campus October 14 and will speak at 7 p.m. in Braden Auditorium. She authored The Glass Castle, which was an Amazon “Top 10 Book of the Decade and a New York Times best-seller for more than three years.

Anya Kamenetz will speak at 7 p.m. on October 20 in the Bone Student Center. She is a Pulitzer Prize nominee and expert on issues facing the Millennials. She will discuss her forthcoming book titled DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs, and the Coming of Transformation of Higher Education.

The series will conclude with Don Etherington at 7 p.m. on November 11 in the Bone Student Center. He will speak on “A Sixty-Year Odyssey in Bookbinding and Conservation.”
