At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Bone Student Center 3rd Floor East Lounge, WJBC radio personality, Ingrid Ramirez, will present “Ingrid Ramirez en Español.” The program, sponsored by Latin American and Latino Studies, is free and open to the public.

Ramirez was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She worked as an actress for a few years and founded Proyecto Sonrisa (Smile Project) to provide theater workshops for the elderly. Ramirez obtained certification as a screenwriter for movies and television from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón and her master’s degree in cinema screenwriting from the Universidad Internacional Audiovisual Menéndez Pelayo in Valencia, Spain. She currently works at State Farm as a production writer for Creative Services.

Faculty and staff are invited to a Dessert Chat with Federico Subervi at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, in the Bone Student Center Circus Room. Sponsored by Latin American and Latino Studies and Diversity Advocacy, Subervi is a professor and director of the Center for the Study of Latino Media & Markets at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Subervi’s presentation, “The Second Most Important Agenda Item: Empowering Images in Media,” will focus on the negatively stereotyped images of Latinos in the media. Subervi will offer guidelines to enhance the participation and development of Latinos, especially Latino children in American society.

Subervi will present “Social Science Research Agendas Related to Latinos; Opportunities and Challenges for All” at noon on Monday, Oct. 11, in 375 Student Services Building. The lecture is free and will address political communication, emergency communication and children’s socialization with regards to the Latino population.
