The Sonic Exploration Society, featuring Illinois State University School of Music Professor Bill Koehler, will perform a program of contemporary jazz and free improvisations on Monday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. in Kemp Recital Hall. The performance, part of the Charles W Bolen Faculty Recital Series, is free and open to the public.

The Sonic Exploration Society features Koehler on double bass; trumpeter Randall Reyman, director of jazz studies at Millikin University, David Vayo, pianist and professor of composition at Illinois Wesleyan University, Manpreet Bedi on tabla, and Bob McEntyre on drums. The program will include original works by Koehler Reyman and Vayo and a composition by Rudresh Mahanthappa, an Indian-American saxophonist who is developing unique ways of blending jazz with classical Indian music.
