The Department of Agriculture is seeking an IT graduate student as a Graduate Assistant to help with some of the web programming/development tasks. Funding would be available full-time for the entire summer and likely to be extended for fall ’11.


  • Manage, develop, and implement custom web and database systems for Department of Agriculture.
  • Perform database maintenance/DBA tasks.
  • Support and enhance existing web application and database systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Dr. Patrick D. O’Rourke.

 Required Qualifications: 

  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Thorough working knowledge of databases, database concepts, and SQL.
  • Experience developing and maintaining web-based applications.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience in C# / VB.NET, SQL Server – coding skills, and Crystal Reports.
    • Microsoft C# / VB .NET 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010
    • Microsoft ASP .NET 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010
    • Microsoft SQL Server

Desired Qualifications:

  • Logical thinking and troubleshooting skills necessary to remedy software and hardware issues. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience with simulation software would be a plus but not required.
