To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack, George F. Taseff will deliver The Civil Liberties Post 9/11: A Review of the Past Decade on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Circus Room. Taseff’s presentation is the 2011 Hibbert R. Roberts Lecture, organized by Illinois State University’s Department of Politics and Government.

Taseff is the senior litigator for the Federal Public Defender’s Office, Central District of Illinois, where his practice is devoted to the defense of federal criminal cases, both trials and appeals. He was formerly in private practice in Bloomington (1989-1995), served as an assistant public defender with the McLean County Public Defender’s Office (1982-1987) and as a staff attorney with Student Legal Services at Illinois State (1981-1983). From 1982 to 2000, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences at Illinois State, where he taught courses in criminal law and procedure, rules of evidence, and constitutional law. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Illinois State in 1978 and his juris doctor from Southern Illinois University in 1981.

Hibbert R. Roberts was the chair of the Department of Political Science for 22 years and was an expert on international relations and American foreign policy. The lecture series was established by his family and friends to honor Roberts, who was mentor, colleague, advocate and friend to faculty and students alike.
