Maya Hayuk will present a School of Art visiting artist lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at noon in the University Galleries. The event is free and open to the public.

Hayuk is a first generation Ukrainian-American artist who maintains a full time, independent studio practice in Brooklyn, New York. Her large-scale murals and small works on paper recall views from the Hubble Telescope, airbrushed nail art, Mexican woven blankets, Ukrainian Easter eggs, chandeliers, mandalas, Rorschach tests and holograms.

Hayuk’s most recent solo shows include a site-specific installation at SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine, HEAVY LIGHT at Cinders Gallery in Brooklyn, New York and FEELING SPACE at Gallery 16 in San Francisco. In 2010, she traveled to Beijing, China where she created several massive mural commissions and in August 2010 she created an on-site painted installation in The Museum of Light and Sound in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
