Before Amy Bernstein ’11 finished packing her apartment to leave campus, there was something she had to do. The public relations major who had interned with the Chicago Bulls was headed to a job in athletics at Northwestern University. But first she went online and made a gift to Illinois State University through the Spirit Tassel Challenge.

“So many of the programs that played a role in my education were only possible because of alumni who chose to give back to the University,” she said. “I wanted students to continue to receive those same benefits and have the amazing experience I had during my four years here. As a new alum, I think it is my responsibility to pay it forward.”

The College of Business strongly endorses the Spirit Tassel Challenge as a way for graduating seniors to show their support for future generations of COB students.  Graduates are encouraged to make a minimum gift of $20.11 in recognition of their graduation year, with the gift designated to the area or department they choose. Students receive a commemorative red and gold tassel with their class year to wear at Commencement. Tassels will be available at Commencement check in for Spirit Tassel Challenge participants. Spirit Tassel participants also are recognized by President Bowman during Commencement. Graduates wishing to participate in the Spirit Tassel Challenge can find more information by visiting the ISU Advancement website.
