The first Redbird Pride Award was presented to Schnucks for a sculpture of the Redbird head made from soft drink cases.

The sculpture which took about three hours to complete, was not the first pop sculpture Schnucks has created to show pride in their relationship with Illinois State. Sculptures in the past five years have included “Go Redbirds,” “ISU,” “Welcome ISU,” and “Go Birds.”

“When students come back, we want them to feel welcome,” said Eric Snow, Schnucks manager. “Now we have to top this for next year!”

“Schnucks has been an excellent partner with the Illinois State campus community,” said Mike O’Grady, chair of the Redbird Pride Committee. “This award is just a small way we can say thank you for sharing the Redbird pride.”

The Redbird Pride Awards recognize extraordinary support for Illinois State University by individuals or local businesses. Awardees are selected by the Redbird Pride Committee, a group of individuals from businesses and organizations and community leaders. Learn more at RedbirdPride.org.
