Sociology and Anthropology Professor James Skibo has been named a Distinguished Professor, which is ISU’s highest faculty honor.

A member of the Illinois State faculty since 1992, Skibo is a worldwide leader in ethnoarchaeology, archaeology of the Great Lakes and Southwest, and archaeological theory.

Skibo has authored and contributed to eight books. He is a founding editor for the book series Foundations of Archaeological Inquiry, and coedits the Journal of Archaeological Method and Theory. Skibo has also contributed to more than 40 articles and chapters.

He holds leadership positions in many professional societies, and is the recipient of grants from the National Science Foundation. He studied in Brazil as a Senior Fulbright Scholar, was named the College Researcher of the Year at ISU in 1999, and was honored in 2001 with an Award for Excellence by the National Forest Service.
