The Illinois State University Horticulture Center’s 2012 theme, Gardens of Ill-Repute: Showcasing Wicked Plants and the Vile Acts They Commit, culminates with a visit from Amy Stewart, the author of the 2009 New York Times bestseller Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities. Stewart will share her knowledge and passion for the dark side of Mother Nature’s botanical creations.

4–6 p.m. Garden Soiree with Amy Stewart at the Horticulture Center
Feature ticket price $50 ($25 tax deductible): Enjoy wickedly decadent appetizers and a cash bar as you meander through the gardens. Each guest will receive a garden corsage, garden memento, and an autographed copy of Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities.

6–7 p.m. Garden of Ill-Repute Market Place
Free: Visit artisan booths and wicked plant displays at the Illinois State University Alumni Center.

7–8 p.m. Wicked Plant Presentation by Amy Stewart at the Alumni Center
Feature ticket price $25 ($15 tax deductible): Amy Stewart confronts Mother Nature’s most nefarious botanical creations. Learn about the plants that have offended, maimed, intoxicated, and killed. A sinful dessert will be served with coffee and tea. Attendees receive a botanical souvenir of the evening’s presentation.
