Christine Flores, A.C.E. ’07, Ed.D. ’12 has been named the recipient of the 2012 Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education (IAASE) Larry D. Vuillemot Leadership Award.

The award is presented annually to an educator in special education who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in the field and has held an elected office on the IAASE Executive Board. Flores has remained active in the IAASE since 1996.

Flores is the director of special education services at Lemont High School District 210. She earned a doctorate in special education from Illinois State earlier this year. Flores also earned her advanced certificate in education through the Department of Special Education in 2007.

Larry D. Vuillemot is of special importance to the College of Education. Vuillemot is credited for laying the groundwork for the special education field-based program and was a strong supporter for programs serving children with disabilities.

In 1990, his friends and relatives established a scholarship in his honor.  The College of Education continues to offer the Lawrence D. Vuillemot Scholarship to assist undergraduate students who are entering a special education field-based experience.
