Alternative Winter Break (AWB) is a service opportunity during the academic winter break where participants travel internationally and domestically to meet the needs of other communities.

This year’s international trip to Guatemala will be held December 27-January 10, and has been named “Building Stoves and Empowering Youths to Strengthen Relationships in a Global Community.” The domestic trip, “Repairing Homes and Hearts: Disaster Relief and Recovery,” is scheduled in New Orleans on January 3-12.

These trips focus on many different social issues like education, affordable housing, environmental factors, and much more. Students learn to become a citizen of the world through strong direct service and reflection, and connect with other students who are looking to make a difference.

Students who were selected to serve on the trip have been busy participating in bi-weekly pre-trip meetings throughout this semester to help educate themselves on the language and culture of the location they will be serving.
