This month, the former Department of Curriculum and Instruction was officially renamed the School of Teaching and Learning.
“The new name reflects a paradigm shift within the discipline,” said Perry Schoon, College of Education dean. “Under the directorship of Dr. Barbara Meyer, the school will advance its mission of educating 21st century educators.”
Meyer has served as the department’s chairperson since 2010.
“The School of Teaching and Learning provides coursework in pedagogy for all 29 secondary, K-12, and special education programs across the University,” Meyer said.
The programs in the School of Teaching and Learning are nationally recognized and are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The school is home to four undergraduate teacher preparation programs, three graduate programs, and more than 1,500 students. It also provides coursework in pedagogy to nearly 2,000 students in education programs throughout the University.
