When Illinois State Normal University (ISNU) was first established, the sole focus was on preparing teachers. For decades, ISNU alumni lead teaching and learning of students in one-room schoolhouses.

In this setting, educators managed a classroom where they taught multiple subjects and students of varying ages while also ensuring the building’s facilities and grounds were safe and comfortable for them all.

With your help, Illinois State would like to capture the stories of these tough and dedicated alumni. Do you have a memory from having taught in such a setting? Can you suggest an ISNU alum for the magazine staff to contact?
