A soccer coach inspired Danielle Piagentini. Not because of the plays he scratched out in huddles but because of a battle he fought on the sidelines.

Cancer.

Danielle wanted to experience the same joy she had for coaching and she took his advice: immerse yourself in what you love.

“I believe I have found the passion my coach believed we all held inside of our hearts,” she said. “For me, it’s nursing.”

Danielle’s mother is a social worker and her father, a Chicago firefighter, so her family values are rooted in helping others. The senior Mennonite College of Nursing student received a scholarship established as a memorial.

“Finances can be quite stressful but with this donation, I can carry on with my education with a bit more peace of mind,” she said.
