Illinois State’s graduating seniors are finding out firsthand the importance of giving back to the University through a revamped giving campaign custom-made for the Class of 2013.

Formally known as the Spirit Tassel Challenge, the Senior Campaign is a giving tradition that graduating Redbirds have participated in since 2007. This year’s Senior Campaign calls on new graduates to make their first gift to Illinois State for $20.13, in honor of their graduation year.

The campaign’s name was changed this year to focus more on educating seniors about the importance and impact of giving to Illinois State. A multimedia marketing effort, including video and social media outreach, is powered by “Did You Know?” quick facts about private giving to the University:

  • If Illinois State relied solely on tuition dollars, the academic year would end on January 17.
  • In all, 76 percent of undergraduate students received some type of financial support this year.
  • Last year, 75 percent of alumni gifts to Illinois State were $100 or less, totaling $355,303.

“The Senior Campaign is an opportunity for our newest alumni to step up and help the next generation of Redbirds,” said Beth Snyder, assistant director for Annual Giving in University Advancement.

Seniors are able to support any area on campus that was meaningful to their college experience. Students who contribute $20.13 will receive a special tassel to wear at Commencement. All seniors who participate will be honored at Commencement and invited to a private reception with President Al Bowman on May 8.
