A new Web video produced on campus will show prospective students from Brazil what it’s like to live and study at Illinois State, in hopes of bringing them to the U.S. through a special scholarship program.

The video, shot earlier this semester, features 10 Brazilians who are studying at Illinois State through the Science Without Borders-Brazil program. That scholarship program, funded by the Brazilian government and private companies, aims to send 101,000 Brazilian students abroad over four years to study at the world’s best universities.

Through Illinois State’s ties with the Institute of International Education’s International Academic Partnership Program, there are 13 Science Without Borders students on campus this semester, with six more coming in fall 2013. (Ten others have already finished their studies and returned to Brazil.)

In the video, the 10 students talk about how their experience at Illinois State compares to their host campuses in Brazil, their interactions with faculty, and what it’s like to live in Bloomington-Normal. Their comments are introduced by physics professor Epaminondas Rosa, himself a native of Brazil.
