The Illinois State University Board of Trustees in February 2013 formally endorsed the University’s updated strategic plan Educating Illinois 2013-2018: Individualized Attention, Shared Aspirations.

The updated version builds on the success of previous iterations of Educating Illinois and outlines the University’s vision and goals for the coming years.

In addition to reaffirming Illinois State’s mission and defining the University’s core values, the plan also outlines strategies for meeting the goals of providing a supportive and student-centered educational experience for high-achieving, diverse and motivated students; providing rigorous and innovative undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students to excel in a globally competitive, culturally diverse and changing environment; fostering an engaged community and enhancing the University’s outreach and partnerships; and enhancing institutional effectiveness by strengthening the organizational operation and enhancing resource development.

During his 2011 State of the University Address, President Al Bowman outlined plans to update and revise Educating Illinois. A task force with representatives from across the University was formed and input on the plan was gathered from campus constituencies. Educating Illinois 2013-2018: Individualized Attention, Shared Aspirations was previously endorsed by each of Illinois State’s shared governance bodies.
