Tom Vasko, College of Business summer intern for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Chicago, went to greet an incoming shuttle bus at the request of his branch manager. When it arrived at O’Hare Airport, the driver stepped out and told him the customer would like a minute to repack his belongings. “It seemed strange to me that someone would have unpacked anything on the short ride from the airport, but I waited near the shuttle bus door until the customer was ready,” said Vasko.

Little did Vasko know the passenger was Mike Bolt, the Keeper of the Stanley Cup. Since 2000, Bolt has followed the Stanley Cup wherever it travels guarding the most famous trophy around. Bolt’s next stop was the United Center where the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins meet for 2013 Stanley Cup Final.

“He was the only person on the shuttle and was taking some pictures, but I couldn’t tell of what,” Tom stated. “He waved me into the bus. I went up the steps and looked to the left to see the Stanley Cup sitting on its case.”

A longtime Blackhawks fan who played hockey for 10 years, Vasko was taken aback by his view of the trophy. “The gentlemen was nice enough to offer to take a photo of me with the cup using my phone,” he said. “Now I just hope the next time I see it, it will be on TV with the Blackhawks hoisting it above their heads.”

A Professional Sales Institute Scholar, Vasko is returning to the College of Business this fall as a junior majoring in Sales/Marketing.
