Technology Short Courses have limited seating. Register today!

To celebrate the start of a new semester, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology has opened registration for our Fall 2013 Short Courses. In fact, we’ve made it easier than ever to browse events and sign up.  Everything you need is now on a single, convenient page.

The name on the tin is exactly what you get– CTLT’s Short Courses are workshops lasting between one and three hours.  But we pack a lot of learning into each session! Courses cover a wide variety of topics, including Microsoft Office applications like Access, Excel, and Word.  We also offer courses to help faculty better communicate with their students:

  • Camtasia – a great, easy-to-use program that allow you to record audio and video from your desktop.  Many faculty members use this to create lecture videos from PowerPoint– but that’s just the beginning!  This fall we’ve added an advanced course in addition to the basic, introductory Camtasia workshop.
  • SoftChalk – a powerful tool to create interactive, engaging online lessons and quizzes.  We’ll also show you how to integrate lesson modules into ReggieNet.
  • Website Creation – in just one hour, learning how to create a compelling website to showcase your research and interact with both colleagues and students.

We are also offering a full slate of both basic and advanced workshops for ReggieNet:

  • Introduction to ReggieNet (Part 1) – a tour of the ReggieNet interface and how to organize your course.  If you missed one of our similar workshops earlier this month, this is your chance to learn the basics.  Important: The next course for this is on Tuesday, August 27, just a week away!
  • Introduction to ReggieNet (Part 2) – once you’ve taken the basic course, learn how to use the Discussion, Tests and Quizzes, and Assignment tools.
  • Gradebook Clinic – a one-hour course on how to set up the grade book function in your classes.  This includes hands-on help with your specific courses.  Important: The first one of these workshops will be on Monday, August 26.
  • Content Organization – how to get the most out of ReggieNet’s built-in Calendar, Modules, and Resources & Materials function.
  • Communication – use ReggieNet’s Form, Chat Rooms, and Course Mail functions to effectively connect with your students.
  • Assessment – learn about advanced ways to use ReggieNet not just to inform, but also to test your students’ progress.

Short Courses are open to faculty and staff.  They are free but require advanced registration. Questions?  Email us at CTLT@ilstu.edu.
