Minorities in the Academic Workplace (MAW) will hold a kick-off luncheon at noon, Friday, Sept. 20, at the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). Faculty interested in participating must email RSVPs by Sept. 18.

MAW is a diversity-related faculty Teaching Learning Community. “MAW is intended to provide you with an opportunity to discuss the joys and challenges of being minorities in the academic workplace,” said Mayuko Nakamura of CTLT. “Through a variety of activities, we will discuss how we can help each other to maximize the joys and minimize the challenges.”

The CTLT will also hold a book club open to all faculty and staff. The group will read Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? by Beverly Tatum. Those participating will discuss racial identity development of diverse students and how it would impact the ways faculty and staff interact with students. Each participant will receive a copy of the book to keep. Contact Nakamura at mnakamu@ilstu.edu or call 438-2628 for more information.
