The Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development is pleased to announce a new agreement with City Year, an AmeriCorps program working to address the dropout crisis in 24 U.S. cities.

City Year corps members serve full time in schools as mentors, tutors, and role models. Corps members support students who are struggling with attendance, behavior, and grades in math and English—three early warning indicators for dropping out of high school.

Founded in 1988 by two Harvard Law School graduates, City Year envisions a national culture of service, such that young people will regularly be asked, “Where are you going to do your service year?” City Year’s mission to build democracy through service, civic leadership, and social entrepreneurship is a great fit for the Stevenson Center. Through the new agreement, the Stevenson Center can better connect with City Year corps members and alumni and staff who may be interested in the center’s Applied Community and Economic Development Fellows Program.

The Stevenson Center is sharing City Year opportunities on campus and in our broader networks.  We look forward to ongoing collaboration with City Year staff in Chicago, Boston, and across the country. We are very excited to have our first City Year alumni at the Stevenson Center this fall!
