Four environmental health (EH) seniors—Patrick Dorsey, Megan Petraitis, Nicole Vicari, and Lacey Walsh—presented a summary of their three research projects at the Illinois Environmental Health Association (IEHA) annual meeting held October 17–18.

The three research projects covered the following topics: conversion of campus waste fryer oil into biodiesel fuel, producing renewable methane from landscape waste using anaerobic digestion, and recovery of nitrogen from wastewater using waste drywall. Faculty advisors on the projects were Tom Bierma and Guang Jin.

A total of 17 EH students attended the conference, setting a record for student attendance at the conference. Most volunteered to assist with conference activities, including being session moderators during most of the break-out sessions.
