Plans are underway for MCN Nurses Week, and the Mennonite College of Nursing will also be celebrating 95 years of nursing and 15 years at Illinois State University in 2014.
Events are being scheduled for the week of April 21. Here’s a tentative schedule, and alumni will receive a formal invitation with all of the details next March.
Tuesday, April 22: Marion McDowell Stafford Lectureship Series – Educational Workshop

Keynote speaker: Teresa Valerio, DNP, APN, FNP-BC, CBSM
Dr. Teresa Valerio
Valerio is an assistant professor at Mennonite College of Nursing and is the D.N.P. program leader. She has a clinical practice in sleep disorders and primary care at Illinois State University’s Student Health Services. Her professional career includes teaching, research, clinical practice, and nearly 20 years of healthcare administrative experience. She received the 2013 Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence from the American Association for Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the Marie Lindsey Spirit of Advanced Practice Nursing Award by the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing (ISAPN). In 2012, Valerio was the first nurse practitioner to become board-certified in the practice of Behavioral Sleep Medicine (CBSM) by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. She was honored as a contributor to the 2011 Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing for the book Sleep Disorders and Sleep Promotion in Nursing Practice.
An application for approval for nursing contact hours has been submitted to the Ohio Nurses Association Approver Unit.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Normal, for Friday and Saturday (April 25 and 26). Please call (309) 452-8900 and ask for the MCN-ISU group room block. The rate is $109, and reservations should be made by April 8, 2014. The Hampton Inn and Suites is located at 320 South Towanda Avenue in Normal.
