Dave Bentlin of the Division of Student Affairs is one of three final nominees for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Award from the Bloomington Human Relations Commission.

 

The awards honors an individual for his or her time and service to the human rights and human relations cause.

 

Bentlin is a longtime advocate and educator for basic human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens. He has served on a variety of boards including McLean County AIDS Task Force, the Prairie Pride Coalition and the Bloomington Human Relations Commission. On campus, he is active with the LGBT/Queer Studies and Service Institute and the Triangle Association. He also works with the ISU PRIDE student organization.

 

The awards will be presented at the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in uptown Normal. The speaker will be Kevin Powell, discussing The Legacy of Dr. King for Today’s Younger Generation.
