Applications are now being accepted for the Cross-Disciplinary Grant Development program for the 2014–2015 academic year. The objective of this program is to facilitate the development of competitive external grant proposals that support research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. The program begins with the recognition that many of the higher-level problems confronting society (e.g., climate change, urban education, global banking meltdowns) can only be solved through the collective contribution of scholars coming from very different disciplines.

Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) will fund 2–3 cross-disciplinary grant development awards to assist cross-disciplinary teams of faculty across campus in developing major grant proposals to external funding agencies or foundations. The awards, which are expected to range from $8,000 to $15,000, will be used to offset some of the expenses incurred in the development of the proposal, including faculty stipends, the use of external evaluators and consultants, travel, and course buyout. Each funded cross-disciplinary team must submit an external proposal to their targeted funding source no later than December 31, 2015.

Previous recipients of this award have received funding from the National Science Foundation.

Applications are due March 21, 2014, by 4 p.m. The application package comprises a cover page, brief narrative, budget and justification and applicants’ CVs. All applications must be submitted via Cayuse 424, routed to your chair/director and then Janet Goucher.
