Art submissions needed for Postcard Art Plus

Postcard Art Stan Musial

Chicago sculptor Lou Cella ’85 submitted this work of St. Louis Cardinals great Stan Musial for a previous year’s Postcard Art event. Cella, who has created larger-than-life statues of Redbird hoops star Doug Collins ’73 and Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie Banks, will once again be submitting work for this year’s event.

Friends of the Arts is seeking submissions for Postcard Art Plus: Creating Inside the Box, the seventh edition of the organization’s annual fundraising event. Art will be accepted from Illinois State University alumni, faculty, staff, and students, and local artists and community members.

Each artist will be allowed to submit a total of two pieces of art. In addition to accepting one-dimensional, 4-inch-by-6 inch pieces of art, FOA will also be accepting any 3-D artwork that fits within a 4-by-6-by-4-inch box. Art is due to the College of Fine Arts no later than April 11.

The Postcard Art exhibit and auction will be held from 5–9 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at University Galleries. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased at the College of Fine Arts Box Office or through Ticketmaster. Paid attendees are guaranteed to walk away with an artwork.

Contributing artists will receive free admission to the event along with complimentary food and beverages. Last year’s event, contributed $14,000 to a grant program that supports College of Fine Arts student projects.

For more information about submitting work, call (309) 438-8321, email FOA@IllinoisState.edu, or visit Finearts.IllinoisState.edu/Support/PostcardArt_FAQ.shtml.
