The judges’ scores have been tallied, and the finalists in the 2014 Mobile Application Development (MAD) Contest, sponsored by State Farm, have been selected.

Nineteen students entered the 2014 MAD Contest on January 16. On February 26 and 27, contestants pitched their concepts to a panel of School of Information Technology faculty judges. The judges evaluated the presentations and selected the contestants who will continue on in the contest, developing a working application to be presented on April 8.

The 2014 finalists and their apps are:

— Kevin Logan: Challenge Accepted social app encouraging users to challenge their friends to competitions promoting good habits in everyday life.

— Kristopher Akers: Hack the Planet, Save the World educational game that introduces the player to programming code.

 Daniel Evens and Josh Bates: Pokedex game of collecting Pokémon, utilizing geolocations and requiring players to be active and explore the world.

— Doug Bailey and Doug Frieders: Fittio running/biking app that lets the user record tracks and share with others.

— Rachel Schifano and Austin Savage: Ergosphere study app that integrates Jawbone live tracking and learning strategies to optimize study time and knowledge retention.

— Steven Squaire and Luke Gloudeman: Intro social app enabling people to meet others of like interests.
