The Illinois Renewable Energy Conference will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at Illinois State University, in Normal. The conference will feature plenary session speakers of interest to all areas of renewable energy plus breakout sessions in specific tracks for wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass energy.

Conference planning partners include the Illinois Wind Working Group (administered by the Center for Renewable Energy at Illinois State), the Illinois Solar Energy Association, the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois, and the Illinois Biomass Working Group. Together, they have developed an informative program with 35 speakers to provide important details on renewable energy policy, technology, and case studies from around the state.

Plenary session speakers include Mel Nickerson of the Illinois Energy Office, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; Barry Matchett of the Environmental Law & Policy Center; Lillian Salerno of USDA Rural Development; Anthony Star of the Illinois Power Agency; and Susan Hedman of EPA Region 5.

“Illinois renewable energy is poised to take a giant leap forward in 2014 and 2015,” said David Loomis, director of the Center for Renewable Energy, Energy Learning Exchange, and Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies at Illinois State University. “Our renewable portfolio standard and our restructured energy markets make Illinois a very attractive place to develop renewable energy projects. This conference in a one-stop-shop for answers to issues concerning renewable energy in the state.”

The conference is sponsored by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University, Cultural Resource Analysts, and Invenergy LLC.

This event is open to the public and will be of special interest to renewable energy companies, policy makers, government officials, county board members, zoning board members, universities, community colleges, schools, landowners, agriculture extension offices, lawyers, electric coops, manufacturers, contractors, and environmental groups.

Early registration cost per person is $50 which includes lunch and continental breakfast at the event. The rate will change to $70 as of July 9, 2014. The Center for Renewable Energy at Illinois State was approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education in 2008. The center has three major functional areas:

  • Supporting the renewable energy major at Illinois State University
  • Serving the Illinois renewable energy community by providing information to the public
  • Encouraging applied research on renewable energy at Illinois State University and through collaborations with other universities.
