This year’s inductee into the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) Academy of Achievement from the School of Information Technology is Eric Chandler ’94.

Chandler earned a bachelor’s degree in applied computer science and a minor in Japanese. He has a master’s degree in computer science from the Stevens Institute of Technology. He is a vice president at Goldman Sachs in the critical infrastructure engineering department, where he focuses on designing automation systems to manage the Domain Name System (DNS) and Internet Protocol (IP) address space for this large multinational firm.

Chandler’s career began in the telecommunications industry at Bellcore (now Telcordia Technologies) in central New Jersey. He worked his way up from change management to developer. He eventually found his niche working both as a systems and as a network architect in Telcordia’s emerging Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) product labs.

Twelve years later, Chandler sought new opportunities as a systems architect at Vonage. He designed software-based, high-availability solutions for various systems and developed an assortment of provisioning, customer service, and monitoring tools. His prime accomplishment was in redesigning Vonage’s email delivery system to enable tracking, escrowing, automated invalid address cleanup, and demand-based load-balancing. The new system achieved deliverability rates of 99 percent and a throughput of more than a million emails daily.

An avid distance runner, Chandler has completed several marathons. He was a member of the Jazz Band, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, and Marching/Pep Band at Illinois State University and is still an ardent trombonist. He lives in central New Jersey with his wife and two children.
