In May Karim Daiya, a Technology DepartmentĀ graduate student studying project management, began working as a project manager intern at Savannah River Remediation (SRR) LLC in Aiken, South Carolina.

SRR is the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The Savannah River Site (SRS) is a key DOE industrial complex responsible for environmental stewardship, environmental cleanup, waste management, and disposition of nuclear materials. More specifically, SRS processes and stores nuclear materials in support of national defense and U.S. nuclear nonproliferation efforts.

Savannah River Remediation has made a substantial impact in protecting the environment and reducing the risk to the neighboring communities of the central Savannah River area by treating nearly 3.7 million gallons of waste, producing more than 1,041 high-level waste canisters, and isolating over 6 million gallons of low-level waste into grout.
