What’s it take to be part of Team Reggie Redbird? Just ask Ryan Bogar.

The senior marketing major is the coordinator of Team Reggie, a student group that takes care of Reggie and his demanding schedule. Bogar and the team work together to manage the mascot’s schedule, serve as his “handler” at games and events, and post to Reggie’s social media accounts.

They also run Team Reggie tryouts, which were held last week in Redbird Arena. Candidates were interviewed and then asked to hop into the Reggie suit for some basic movements, such as a crowd “pump up,” dancing, and prop work. No previous cheer or mascot experience was required, but it’s a plus.

Bogar has been working with Redbird Athletics for more than two years, including this past year with Reggie.

“It’s really propelled me as an individual,” Bogar said. “Being a part of Team Reggie and Redbird pride has been a big thing for me. I really get into the games. I love every sport I go to.”
