Illinois State University students thinking about studying abroad have the chance to win a $1,500 scholarship, just by attending an informational meeting.

The Office of International Studies and Programs will hold an event to give students the nuts and bolts of how to study abroad at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. The event is free and open to Illinois State students.

Students who attend have the chance to win a drawing for a $1,500 study aboard scholarship, as well an airline ticket voucher worth up to $1,500. Other drawing prizes will include Ray-Ban sunglasses and a COACH weekender bag. Students must be present to win.

The hour-long event will also feature a 15-minute presentation from Daniel Obst, one of the leaders of the Institute for International Education (IIE). Obst provides strategic leadership and oversight for the activities of IIE’s network of 1,200 member institutions. He also serves as executive editor of IIE’s Global Education Research Reports series and has co-edited several books on international partnerships. Obst, who holds a master’s degree in European studies from the London School of Economics, was appointed to serve on the U.S . National Commission to UNESCO in 2013.

The event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Office of International Studies and Programs, the Illinois State University Foundation and Daniel Obst. For additional information, contact International Studies at 438-5276.
