This month’s Dean of Students Office Student Spotlight is Carl Hunter, a senior psychology major.
After attending a retreat through Diversity Advocacy, Hunter became involved with the Black and Latino Male Movement. The Movement focuses on issues that affect black and Latino males at Illinois State.
Hunter’s involvement has helped him become more socially aware of the world, which in turn helped him become an empathetic leader.
“I can lead better knowing that I have a duty and obligation to teach others to be socially aware of issues faced in all communities,” Hunter said.
He enjoys helping others in any way that he can.
“I can be a liaison for someone, I am more sensitive to the needs and concerns of others, and I learned how to be less quick to judge,” he said.
Hunter recommends that students get involved during their time at Illinois State.
“Just go and see what is offered and you may find out something about yourself,” he said. “Being involved never really feels like work. It’s a love for what I do.”
