Jennifer Friberg, Ed.D. ’06, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Illinois State, will attend her 10th American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) National Convention this November.

Friberg has recently been elected to the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) by ASHA and will attend her first CAA meeting at this year’s convention. Being elected to the CAA is not Friberg’s first leadership position at ASHA. A few of the other roles in which she has served include being the Chair of the SOTL Committee for the Council on Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and the National Coordinator of Special Interest Group 10 (Issues in Higher Education). At this year’s convention she will also will chair the Special Interest Group 10 Affiliates meeting and attend the Board of Special Interest Group Coordinators.

Friberg displays a remarkable passion for speech-language pathology, and she cites many positive outcomes as a result of being involved in ASHA.

“I really feel that my involvement with SIG 10 has been a great complement to the work I do with the scholarship of teaching and learning as part of my own research agenda at ISU,” Friberg said. “I have always been passionate about using evidence-based educational practices in the courses I teach, and my volunteer roles for ASHA have broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding about what I do as a course instructor.”
