The Illinois State football team clinched a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with a 44-29 win over Southern Illinois November 22. The Redbirds (10-1) share the title with the three-time-defending FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) champs North Dakota State (10-1). The title is the first for Illinois State since the 1999 season.

Announced on the FCS Selection Show Sunday, the Redbirds earned the No. 5 seed in the playoffs. Illinois State will get a first-round bye and will host the second round of the playoffs inside Hancock Stadium on December 6. The last time ISU hosted a playoff game was also the 1999 season. The 10 wins this season for the Redbirds is a school record.
