You see it every time you enter the Student Fitness Center, but have you ever tried it? A must for everyone during their time at Illinois State University, the climbing area is a great workout and a thrilling experience.

The Adventure program offers many ways to get involved in climbing. Staff belays allow you to try out this sport under the guidance of our qualified staff who will provide assistance to new climbers from 4–9 p.m. Mondays during the spring semester.

If you’re not ready to get on the climbing wall, try climbing a little closer to the ground in the bouldering cave. This area is a great space to increase strength and improve your climbing technique without the need for ropes and harnesses.

If you’re ready to take the next step in climbing, sign up for one of our many belay workshops. Hosted four times during the spring semester, these workshops are just $15 for members and will provide basic belaying information about equipment, anchoring, knots, and safety checks. Participants who attend a workshop must complete a free safety skills assessment to open up more opportunities to climb independently during all climbing hours.
