Teaching Excellence Series: Beyond the Flashcard
How Memorization Works

To students, learning seems simple. They take information, write it on a flashcard, re-read it, keep re-reading it, and test themselves until they feel confident. In this session, dig into how memory works and discover ways to enhance the learning process and reduce elements that interfere with it. No registration is required

Showcase your teaching, research, and service using your own, customized University web pages. About.IllinoisState is a browser-based way to create webpages. No additional software is required. This workshop is open to faculty and staff only. (Stevenson Hall, Room 107)
Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 2
Tuesday, January 27 • 1–3 p.m.
Learn to create a variety of learning activities using built-in tools such as Discussions, Tests and Quizzes, Assignments. Discussion forums can promote student interaction with each other and course material. The Assignment tool permits online submission and grading of student work. Finally, you will learn to use Tests and Quizzes for various types of testing. Prerequisite: Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 1

Wednesday, January 28 • 1–4 p.m.
This is an introduction to Microsoft Word’s basic tools. You will learn to create new documents, enter and edit text, and save files.
Excel: Level 1
Thursday, January 29 • 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
An introduction to Microsoft Excel. Topics include basic features such as spreadsheet arrangement (rows, columns, and cells), entering, editing, and formatting data. Also learn about formulas and graph creation.
Lead a Study Abroad Program
Thursday, January 29 • 12–1 p.m.
Use the entire world as your classroom! Give your students the opportunity to obtain and sharpen critical intercultural skills. This three-part workshop, facilitated by the Office of International Students and Programs, will present an overview of the study abroad process and its foundational concepts. It will familiarize you with the responsibilities associated with being a faculty director and provide important insight about how to develop your own study abroad program. Seating is limited, so registration is required for this series. Registration is necessary.

Thursday, January 29 • 2–4 p.m.
Explore the fundamentals of this web-based alternative to PowerPoint. Prezi allows users to create stunning, animated presentations. Learn how to use Prezi’s powerful tools to lead your audience visually, step-by-step, through a narrative. This workshop is designed for both instructors who wish to use Prezi in the classroom and staff members who want to use Prezi for meetings and business presentations.
