Join Campus Recreation’s Adventure program April 10-12 for a climbing and hiking trip to Southern Illinois. Located in the scenic Shawnee National Forest near Carbondale, Giant City State Park is the ideal place for an adventure filled with camping, hiking, climbing, and rappelling. The 80-foot sandstone cliffs are home to the original “Giant City Streets,” which were formed over 12,000 years ago and provide historic and beautiful outdoor scenery.

“Participants can expect to gain an understanding of the differences between natural rock and the climbing wall,” said Jennifer Holcombe, coordinator of Adventure programs. “This weekend trip will provide a great experience to develop new friendships as well as new skills.”

The cost is just $85 for students/members or $100 for faculty/staff without a Student Fitness Center membership. The price of the trip includes food, transportation, and equipment. Participants of all fitness levels are encouraged to attend; no prior hiking or climbing experience is necessary.

Register by noon March 25. To ensure that all participants are prepared to climb and hike through Giant City State Park, there will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. March 25. For more information, visit the Adventure section of the Campus Recreation website or call (309) 438.8417.
