Hissy Fit is a new online student zine in blog format. It’s been going strong since the fall 2014 semester.

Hissy Fit features articles aimed at educating and empowering readers to initiate conversations on social justice issues and community activism. Here’s the most recent publication.

The zine’s most recent issue focuses on women’s relationships in art and media. It will be published in mid-February 2015. Topics addressed in previous publications have included sexual harassment, domestic violence, androgynous dressing, the use of preferred gender pronouns, women in gaming, and music scene cultures.

Want to be a part of this? Hissy Fit meetings are every second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the second floor lounge of Rachel Cooper Hall. Students wear a special patch to promote the online student zine. The Hissy Fit patches are inspired by the 1980s and 1990s Riot Grrrl punk era and the girl punk bands of the era, such as Bikini Kill.

Since its founding, the Hissy Fit has retained at least 15 writers on staff, but there is room for more. All Illinois State University students are welcome to submit articles and artwork. Submission deadlines are every last day of the month at 4:30 p.m.

In the future, Hissy Fit staff members hope to offer print copies of the zine, sponsor on-campus events, and take trips to zine festivals in the region. Want to know more? Contact Hissy Fit at isuhissyfit@gmail.com.
