Rebecca Saunders from the Department of English will give a presentation as part of the Geography/Geology/Geohydrology Explorations and Observations (GGGEO) series at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in Schroder Hall, room 238.

Sponsored by the Department of Geography and Geology, Saunders will present Mobilizing Memory: Geographies of (De)memorialization in the Films of Patricio Guzmán. She will be discussing the work of Chilean documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán.

A professor of comparative literature at Illinois State, Saunders wrote the 2007 book Lamentation and Modernity in Literature, Philosophy, and Culture. She is also the coeditor and coauthor of The Concept of the Foreign:  An Interdisciplinary Dialogue, a collaborative, interdisciplinary book that investigates diverse uses of the concept of the foreign in literature, psychology, philosophy, history, anthropology, social work and women’s studies.

Holding a Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Saunders has published extensively in scholarly journals such as Angelaki: A Theoretical Journal of the Humanities, Contemporary Women’s Writing, SUR: International Journal of Human Rights, Research in African Literatures and Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
