Honors

Olcay Akman, MAT, has been asked to create a new Biomathematics section of the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience. The request came after Akman’s article, Natural Selection at Work: An Accelerated Evolutionary Computing Approach to Predictive Model Selection, became among the best performing articles at Frontiers.

The School of Social Work’s baccalaureate social work program has been reaccredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation, through February 2023.

Pranshoo Solanki, TEC, received the award for best paper at the 30th International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management in Philadelphia, Pa., for his work Mechanical Properties of Concrete Containing Shredded Scrap Tires and Class C Fly Ash.

Performances

Leslie Manfredo, MUS, served as the guest conductor for the High School Area Choral Festival at Taylorville High School in Taylorville, Ill.

Joseph Manfredo, MUS, was guest conductor for the High Plains Band Festival, sponsored by Chadron State College in Nebraska. He also guest conducted the All-Colorado Honor Band hosted by Western State Colorado University.

Presentations

Kim McCord, MUS, presented Accessing Music Through Universal Design for Learning at the 32nd Annual Music and Arts Educator Clinic.

Kathryn Sampeck, ANT, will participate in the National Endowment for the Humanities-funded Institute for Digital Archaeology Method and Practice for her Cherokee research and public outreach. Sampeck routinely employs various forms of digital data collection and analysis, and she will participate in a conference at Michigan State University this coming August.

Roger Anderson, BIO emeritus, presented Fire Suppression and Intensive Deer Browsing Changes Forest Tree Species Composition and Abundance at the Midwest Fire Conference, Dubuque, Iowa.  The conference was sponsored by the Tallgrass Oak Savanna Fire Science Consortium (TPOS), one of 15 fire science consortia nationwide supported by the federal government.
