Madison Strebel is eager to be a teacher.
Right away at Illinois State, she was taking classes in her major (elementary education), covering children’s literature, children’s psychology, and other topics. Soon, Strebel began her clinical experiences, which were her first exposure to observation, tutoring, assisting, small group and whole class instruction.
Illinois State’s College of Education helps students like Strebel get comfortable with a real school environment early on, so they’re able to make a smooth transition into student-teaching and later their own classrooms. That’s made even easier by the two laboratory schools (Metcalf and University High) right on campus.
“After your time at ISU, you’ll be more than prepared to be a first-year teacher,” said Strebel, a junior.
