The Illinois State Career Center is pleased to announce the following points of pride from its academic programs:
- Illinois State ranked among the Top 100 in Bloomberg Businessweek’s Best Undergraduate Business Schools in 2014—one of only two public business schools in Illinois to make the list.
- Each year more than 150 students from the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences (CJS) are placed into internships with federal, state, county, and local agencies, as well as departments around the world. CJS students are consistently chosen for a competitive Washington, D.C., internship program.
- All students in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences receive relevant, high-quality professional practice experience. Students regularly have opportunities to apply theory to practice.
- As the largest preparer of teachers in Illinois, the College of Education gives future educators a clear path to graduation. Most undergraduate students earn their degree in four years, and 97 percent of students graduate in five years or less.
- Approximately one in four first-year public school teachers hired in Illinois graduated from Illinois State.
- The University is the largest producer of special education teachers in Illinois at the bachelor level.
- About 800 Illinois State alumni have achieved National Board certification, the gold standard for accomplished teaching. This ranks the University in the top 20 for institutions that have alumni who are National Board Certified Teachers.
- The arts technology program combines serious artistry with modern technology to train true digital artists who are prepared to adapt to today’s needs.
- Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) graduates achieved a 94 percent pass rate on the national nursing licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) in 2014—better than the state (84 percent) and national (82 percent) averages.
- The Transcultural Nursing Experience allows students the opportunity to examine nursing care in a location that is culturally different. Locations have included Brazil, England, Russia, Kentucky, Texas, and the Chicago area.
- MCN hosted the Pre-Entry and Retention Opportunities for Undergraduate Diversity (PROUD) summer camp pilot program in 2013, part of an MCN grant of more than $1.1 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support developing diversity in the nursing workforce.
