The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is proud to announce the newest addition to Illinois State University’s audiology program, Antony Joseph.
Joseph was hired as an assistant professor in the CSD department and will start his new position in the 2015–2016 school year. Joseph currently works for the department as a nontenure track instructor and teaches Introduction to Audiology and Hearing Science at the undergraduate level, and Occupational Audiology, Educational Audiology, and Professional Issues in Audiology at the graduate level. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) and the American Academy of Audiology.
Joseph received his Doctorate of Audiology at Central Michigan University, and his Ph.D. at Michigan State University. He has 25 years of clinical practice. Specifically, Joseph has experience working as a military audiologist in the U.S. Navy. He also has experience in multiple other settings, from pediatric-educational to clinical and occupational audiology.
The focus of his current research is in occupational audiology, with the goal of the project being to help people protect themselves from hazardous noise. Joseph stated that, “the simple use of hearing protection is nontrivial.” The vast majority of people are unable to adequately protect themselves against both occupational and extraoccupational noises. By educating the public and focusing on prevention, we can reduce the incidence of noise-induced hearing loss.
The department is very excited for the great leadership and experience that Joseph will bring to the program for years to come.
